You most likely came here from the "Use Firefox" buttons all around the OIC. Why should you use firefox?
Firefox has been listed as one of the most private and secure browsers now. This is because Firefox's source code are freely available, making vulnerabilities much more easier to detect. Besides, it's open sourceness also helps it to have more features that are added by the community, thus letting it become more secure feature-wise than other browsers
This is a much larger issue. Google Chrome has been the most used browser for almost a decade . Among the most used browsers as of writing(July 4th 2021), three browsers are using the Chromium engine: Edge, Opera and Chrome themselves. Excluding Safari(which is another browser I DO NOT recommend), Windows users essentially have only one other choice than Chromium engine browsers: Firefox
But you might wonder, why care? First of all, while Chromium is open source, the 3 browsers using the engine are NOT, meaning that they can change the Chromium engine to whatever they like the next day and some sites might be completely unusable.
Besides, if Chromium dominates the browser engine market, Google can just cut off the open sourcing of the code, meaning that your browser can become insecure, and even dangerous, just over one night.
The about:config menu is the configuration menu for Firefox. Compared to chrome://flags (Chrome(ium) based browsers' config page), it is much more flexible and versatile. You can also add additional values to the configuration, which as far as I'm aware of, doesn't work on Chromium based browsers
Just like Chromium, Firefox has extensions as well. The Firefox web store has much secure extensions than the Chrome web store. In fact, Google just removed 500 extensions with malware in their store. 500!
These are my reasons for using Firefox, mainly because I want a browser that is free and open source, as well as secure. Join me now and use Firefox today!
If you are not a Firefox user yet, you can download it from their page: https://mozilla.org/firefox
If you are already a Firefox user, you can recommend your friends and family to use it. You can also help someone to install Firefox if you are helping someone to set up a computer.
